In order to commence training you will require a category C provisional entitlement on your licence. To obtain this you must first pass a medical to confirm your fitness to drive a LGV vehicle. Your doctor will be able to carry this out for you, typically charge in excess of £100 will be made for this medical report, however we are able to arrange this medical for you with our doctor at a cost of £50. You will then need to pass the LGV theory and Hazard Perception Tests. The fee for these is currently £50. You can find out more information about the theory test by visiting our LGV Theory test page or by visiting the DSA web site. You can even try out practice tests for free at “Safe Driving for Life” website provided by the DSA In addition you will find all the questions and answers in the DSA publication The Official Theory Test for Drivers of Large Vehicles available at WH Smiths and all good bookshops.
Once you have obtained your provisional licence and passed your theory test we invite you for a free assessment drive to enable us to review your driving skills and assess the length of training you will require. We will then be able to book your course of tuition ending with your DSA driving test on the last day.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Training will be undertaken in a full sized rigid or articulated lorry on a one to one basis at a pace that suits them while receive the full attention of their instructor. This enables trainees to develop their own driving skills. Training will cover all aspects of the DSA driving test including the reversing exercise as well as guidance on maintenance and tachograph procedures. Tests will normally be taken at the Thurrock LGV Test Centre.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
Once you have had your assessment drive we are then ready to book your course of training at this point a deposit of £150 is due, the balance becomes payable no laterthan 10 days before the commencement of the course. While we will make every effort to ensure that you pass the test, in the unlikely event that a candidate requires to take a further test, your instructor will discuss with you the reasons given for the failure and agree a further short course to remedy the situation, which will be at your expense.
